About the GNLU ADR Magazine
The ADR Magazine was launched in 2020, under the aegis of GNLU’s Student Research Development Council. The Magazine, now in its fourth year of operations, is a tri-annual student-run publication that publishes write-ups pertaining to the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
The aim of the Magazine is to keep pace with the recent developments, judicial decisions, and practices being adopted in Indian and foreign jurisdictions, as well as promote a comparative and interdisciplinary understanding of various dynamics shaping this domain of law.
Throughout the years, the Magazine has successfully published 4 Volumes and 12 Issues featuring articles from notable practitioners and interviews with industry leaders.
About the Competition
The primary aim of this Competition is to foster academic discourse and research in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution while providing law students with a platform to showcase their analytical and writing skills.
Through this initiative, we seek to create meaningful knowledge exchange opportunities between aspiring lawyers and industry professionals, facilitating professional growth.
The Competition is designed to contribute to the evolving jurisprudence of Alternative Dispute Resolution through scholarly articles, encouraging participants to engage in critical thinking about contemporary challenges in dispute resolution.
In recognition of the efforts of our contributors, we will be publishing the top five articles of the Competitions in Volume V Issue I of the Magazine.
Themes
The submissions for the Competition may revolve around the following broad themes:
- Counterclaims in Investment Arbitration: Challenges and Implications
- Transforming India into a Global Arbitration Hub: Opportunities and Challenges
- The Concept of Patent Illegality and its Alignment with Global Standards
- The Applicability of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act to Investor-State Dispute Settlement Mechanisms
- Arbitrability Issues: The Scope of Live and Dead Claims in Arbitration
- Arbitration under Micro and Small Enterprise Facilitation Council (MSEFC): Benefits and Challenges
- Enforcement of Arbitral Awards in India: Legal Hurdles and Emerging Challenges
Eligibility
Contributions are welcome from undergraduate students currently in the third, fourth and fifth year of a five-year integrated LL.B. program from a recognized university. Additionally, only single authorship is permitted.
Registration
Those interested may register by 30th December 2024, after which no applications will be accepted. Please note that interested students are required to submit a Registration Fee of Rs. 200, details of which are required to be filled in the registration form.
Each author will receive a confirmation of receipt of registration from the Magazine.
The step-by-step process for registration is as follows:
- The registration form can be accessed here.
- In the registration form, you will find the payment link. Enter the necessary details and complete the payment. The payment link can also be accessed here.
- Once the payment is made, download the receipt or take a screenshot that clearly shows the transaction details. This will serve as your proof of payment.
- Return to the Google Form and fill in the required information. Upload the receipt or screenshot of your payment as proof.
- After submitting the registration form, you will receive an automatic form response email. Ensure you have received this email, as it confirms that your form has been submitted.
- Once the registration period closes, the Editorial Board will verify all registration details and payments.
- Registered participants will receive an email with a unique registration number and a link to the manuscript submission form.
Please note that the registration fee is non-refundable.
Submission Guidelines
- Mode of Submission: The manuscript needs to be submitted through the Google Form only. The same will be shared with registered students over email. Submissions made via e-mail or by any other means shall not be considered.
- Co-authorship is not permitted.
- Word Limit: The word limit for the submission is 2000 to 2500 words excluding footnotes.
- Citation Style: Citations must strictly conform to the style in the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA 4th ed., 2012). No hyperlinks are allowed.
- Body: Garamond with a font size of 12 and line spacing of 1.5
- Footnotes: Garamond with a font size of 10 and line spacing of 1.
- Manuscripts that have already been submitted or published elsewhere must not be submitted.
- Themes: Submissions must deal with relevant and contemporary legal and policy issues on the provided themes. Any deviation from the provided themes is not permitted.
- Plagiarism: All submissions will be screened for similarity index and AI writing. Paraphrasing, as well as verbatim usage of content without appropriate citation of authorities, shall qualify as plagiarism. The Magazine has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism, and any instance of plagiarism in the manuscript will constitute a ground for immediate disqualification. The thresholds as per the UGC Guidelines will be followed in this regard.
- Style Guide: Please refer to this detailed Style Guide to adhere to the formatting requirements of the Magazine.
- Submissions must not contain any references to the identity of the authors in the body of the manuscript to ensure anonymity.
- Any failure to adhere to the guidelines may result in rejection of the submission.
- The Editorial Board may, in its absolute discretion, waive any of the above rules or amend the process. In case of any dispute or ambiguity, the decision of the Editorial Board shall be final and binding.
- The author agrees to vest the Magazine with the Copyright over its manuscript upon publication.
Evaluation
The evaluation will be a two-tiered process:
- First, the Editorial Board of the Magazine will conduct a thorough review of all submissions following the standard editorial process. The top 20 per cent of the articles will be shortlisted based on originality, research quality, analytical depth, and relevance to the chosen theme.
- Second, the shortlisted articles will be forwarded to a panel of experts for final evaluation. The panel will select the top 5 winning entries.
Awards
- Winner: Internship with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000 and Publication in the Volume V Issue II of the Magazine.
- First Runners-up: Internship with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Cash Prize of Rs. 7,000 and Publication in the Volume V Issue II of the Magazine.
- Second Runners-up: Internship with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Cash Prize of Rs, 5,000 and Publication in the Volume V Issue II of the Magazine.
- Third Runners-up: Cash Prize of Rs. 3,000 Publication in the Volume V Issue II of the Magazine.
- Fourth Runners-up: Cash Prize of Rs. 3,000 and Publication in the Volume V Issue II of the Magazine.
* The internship with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas can only be availed in the fourth and fifth year of the degree. Further, the month, location, and internship team will be subject to the firm’s discretion.
